WISSA - World Ice and Snow Sailing Association

The World Ice and Snow Sailing Association Ice and Snow Sailing World Championships (ISSWC) is the longest running international competition in the sport of windsurfing.

The ISSWC got started in 1980, and WISSA officially formed at Worthsee, Germany in 1987. Originally, the organization was about windsurfing on ice and snow with various sleds powered by windsurfing rigs.

Estonia 1991 saw the first hand held sail, and Poland 1993 was the first official start for kites. Those two milestones make the WISSA ISSWC the longest running international competition for both hand held and kite sail racing as well as windsurfing!

Sturgeon Spearing Season

Dating back to practices perfected by the Native Americans, Sturgeon Spearing is a truly unique phenomenon found in very few places throughout the world. Each year right around the second weekend in February thousands of spearers descend upon the frozen surface of the mighty Lake Winnebago for a rite of the season. Veritable spearing villages arise and a festival like atmosphere pervades throughout the waterfront and into the surrounding community of Fond du Lac Wisconsin known as the Sturgeon Spearing Capitol of the world.
